i've been pleasantly busy lately. enough to feel accomplished, but not enough to feel burned out. close to csikszentmihalyi's flow, perhaps.

currently, i'm playing a game called "Star Ocean: The Last Hope", which must be japanese for "convoluted story with creepy characters". seriously - the characters eyes DON'T MOVE. it's like watching a really freaky puppet show. the story is fucking awful too. somehow, i just ended up on Earth in 1957 after being sucked into a black hole. i'm not kidding here.

the only thing that the animators who worked on Star Ocean seemed to have spent time on is "jiggle physics". i'll let your minds fill in the blanks on that one.

the only thing that keeps me coming back to play is the really awesome battle design. its extremely fluid, and the alternating spells/swordfighting mechanic is really flawless. too bad i want to jettison some of the characters out of an airlock. in space, no one can hear you recite bad dialogue.

i'm seriously about to buy a wii, just so i can buy monster hunter tri and grind with everyone from back home. i'm a sick, sick man. better that then diving into world of warcraft. yes, the thought has recently crossed my mind, if but for a fleeting moment. i really want to get lost into another world, preferably one in which my friends can play too. that's why i think monster hunter will scratch that itch. perhaps.

besides, if i'm going to be here all summer, i need to be albe to socialize SOMEHOW. i figure monster hunter is more fun than sending smoke signals.

i'm contemplating starting a new comic to help satisfy that feeling for a fantasy world, but i doubt i'll have the time or the motivation to bring it to fruition. my ideal setting is something that takes place almost entirely at night in small, waterfront villages. i'm still working on it in my mind, but like i said, we'll see.

that's all for now, folks. enjoy the new comic. only two more strips left in this mission!

At least a dozen reasons exist for buying and playing this game. I also want it - desperately.

BUT (and if I could make this BUT any larger, I would)...

There's one good reason not to get it until summer starts. If you start playing it now, you'll forget all the "other" shit in your life. School, work, people (outside of co-gamers) will cease to exist on the same level. That's how serious this game is going to be.

I'm going to buy it, of course. I just need to be prepared to lose myself for awhile.
